Benevolat.
So my program set up a volunteer opportunity for us to go to a local retirement home to chat with old people to practice our French and to keep them company. There were four of us interested, so we go in pairs twice a month (like two go one week then the two other go the next week, etc). Tonight was the first meeting and it was AMAZING. Old people love us!! There were eight of them in a big circle and they would just ask us questions and tell us all they know about the United States ("Do you like the Kennedys? Were you sad when Jon Jon died? Tell us about Madame Clinton, is the U.S. trying to be like France and put a woman in the place of the president?") There's Odette, Georgette, Pascal, Ferdinand, Francoise the Italian, Francoise, Ani, and Emilie. Amber and I both liked Ferdinand, but my favorite was Georgette because she's the old lady I imagine I'll be when I get old. They kept telling us how good our French was (even though Amber talked the entire time) and then there was bise-ing all around at the end. I can't wait to go back!
